Carved by Hellenistic sculptors from Rhodes, this artwork was inspired by the Greek myth of Laocoon, the Trojan priest, who warned his citizens not to accept the wooden horse. When the horse is presented to Athena, she sends serpents to kill Laocoön and his two sons. The emotion and pathos on the priest's face are characteristic of Hellenistic Art. This special sculpture can be found in the Pio Clementino Museum, Italy and is Greco-Roman from c. 50 BC.
Laocoon (Trojan Priest) and Sons Hellenistic Statue is made from bonded carrara marble, black marble base, imported from Italy, 7"W x 3"D x 11.5"H.
